Recent claim to fame is the 2001 movie "The Blair Witch Project" (which is a fictional movie, by the way!) is based in Burkittsville. Burkittsville was founded in 1824. The population of town is roughly 200. Battle of Crampton's Gap took place Sept. 14, 1862 and served as a prelude to the Battle of Antietam, which took place three days later. Town remains a prime tourist destination for Civil War buffs.
